As the stone catches the light it comes alive with vivid flashes of blue, green, yellow, orange and vibrant red, changing dramatically from different viewing angles. Whilst every effort has been made to photograph the opal accurately, its remarkable play of colour is even more impressive in person. The changing colours proved difficult to capture fully in photographs and are best appreciated when viewed in natural light.
The impressive oval opal measures approximately 14 × 10mm within an elegant vintage setting measuring approximately 18 × 15mm. Its generous proportions and remarkable play of colour give the ring an eye-catching presence, making it a beautiful vintage statement ring suitable for both everyday wear and special occasions.
The beautifully decorative open gallery beneath the setting enhances the ring's vintage character while allowing the opal to take centre stage.
This ring retains its original 585 stamp together with the maker's mark, indicating it was manufactured to the 14ct gold standard. Prior to sale it was submitted to the Birmingham Assay Office for modern hallmarking. As the gold tested fractionally below the legal 14ct standard, it was hallmarked as 9ct gold, the next recognised gold standard below 14ct in the UK. The photographs show both the original 585 stamp and the later Birmingham hallmark, preserving an interesting part of the ring's history.
